Pakistan Denies Allegations of Fighting for Russia
In a strong statement, the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs firmly refuted the "baseless and unfounded" assertions regarding any Pakistani involvement in the ongoing hostilities in Ukraine.
The ministry emphasized that no formal communication had been received from Ukrainian officials and no "verifiable evidence" had been provided to support such allegations.
President Zelenskyy had stated on Monday that Ukrainian troops in the northeastern region of the country were encountering foreign "mercenaries" from several nations, naming Pakistan among them.
“Our warriors in this sector are reporting the participation of mercenaries from China, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, and African countries in the war. We will respond,” he declared in a message posted on X, during a visit to the Vovchansk front.
In response, Islamabad noted that it intends to raise the matter with Ukrainian representatives and request clarification regarding these claims.
The government reiterated its stance in favor of a peaceful settlement to the Ukraine conflict, highlighting its support for negotiations and diplomacy in alignment with the principles outlined in the UN Charter.
